Frequently Asked Questions

What's it all about then?

Well, it's quite simple, it's an eight hour festival to be held in Ipswich on Sunday 24th July (Think 24/7!) at the Steamboat Tavern pub. They'll be two stages of entertainment running from about 1pm through until 10pm.

So is this a new event then? Why haven't I heard of it before?

No, it's not a new thing at all. The first St Augustine's Festival took place in a large back garden in the St Augustine's area of Ipswich back in 2001 and we've been growing ever since. Traditionally it's an event which festival goers have heard about from word-of-mouth, usually because they know someone who's performing. But this year things are different. This year we're opening it up to the rest of the world...

What sort of performances can I expect?

We're pulling together a varied lineup to ensure that there really will be something for everyone. This isn't a rock or folk festival, although of course both genres will be represented. They'll be everything from solo operatics through to contemporary bands; original music to covers via stand up comedy.

More than just music then?

That's right. While there will be a lot of music spread over two stages, we'll break it all up with something completely different from time to time - you won't know what to expect next! And remember, we're holding this at the Steamboat Tavern so you can be sure that there will be a friendly welcome, good company, a well stocked bar, and some fabulous food...

OK, so I'm interested. Do I need a ticket or photo ID?

What do you think this is? Glastonbury? Entry to the festival is free on a first-come first-served basis so you don't need trawl e-bay for a ticket. Just turn up on the day and bask in the sun and let the music wash all over you. No photo ID needed unless you look under 18 and are trying to get served at the bar...

It's free then?

Entry to the festival is free, but we will be trying to extract some money from you for the good causes that the festival is supporting through donations and raffles and so on. Hopefully you'll agree that's a small price to pay for the top-rate entertainment. All of the performers are giving their time for nothing.

Which Good Causes are you supporting?

WaterAidAny donations or profits raised from the event will be donated to two charities, WaterAid (UK Charity registration number 288701) and Concern.

WaterAid is an international charity dedicated to helping people escape the stranglehold of poverty and disease caused by living without safe water and sanitation. You can find out more from their website by clicking here. You can make a donation online via the website - ideal if you can't make it to the festival.

Concern is an Ipswich-based charity which aims to relieve distress, mental Concernsickness and anxiety amongst the community through the provision of assistance in the form of counselling through the Counselling Centres. Further information on Concern can be found via their website which can be found by clicking here.

Right, so Sunday 24th July at the Steamboat Tavern in Ipswich then...just remind me where that is?

It's at 78 New Cut West, Ipswich, IP2 8HW...that's right down on the waterfront near the docks. There's a map which shows roughly where it is here. If you need to call, the phone number is 01473 601902.

Right, I think that's all my questions for now!

Glad to hear it! But if you do have any more questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. You can e-mail us here, and remember to keep checking back to this site regularly as we add more and more information.
